PCMR Etiquette
PCMRetiquette has a lot in common with Reddiquette, but is tailored for our community.
Please read the PCMR Rules and PCMR Etiquette. Review these occasionally as they may change over time.
Do not feign stupidity when posting and commenting. This integrates directly with Rule 6.
Do not use PCMR for meta-reddit or meta-subreddit drama or complaints about this or other community's members or moderators.
Follow ‘Wheaton’s Law’ aka “Don’t be a dick.” Be open to opinions you may disagree with. Don't be gratuitously aggressive when discussing with users who do not share your opinion. Use proper grammar and spelling when possible, but remember that PCMR is global so not everyone in here is a native English speaker. Spoilers are considered a dick move.
Use an "Innocent until proven guilty" mentality. Mistakes happen, so try not to be quick to judgement.
If you are claiming anything that is serious and can be used against anyone, you must provide decent proof and make an effort to remain active enough to reply to legitimate doubts that other users may have about this issue, otherwise your thread may be removed until you do so.
Keep submissions and titles factual. Provide sources and evidence to back your claims. Use the original source when possible. Do not use "edgy" titles. No editorializing or sensationalizing. No emojis/smileys/emoticons or ALL CAPS on titles. Posts may be removed for nonsensical or bad titles.
Check for duplicates before posting. Redundant posts divide the conversation and add nothing new.
Report spam and rule-breaking content you find, but do not abuse this function.
Unless there is obvious proof that a submission is fake, or is “karma whoring”, please don't say it is. It ruins the experience for the other members of the community.
Vote If you think something contributes, upvote; if it's off topic, downvote. Just because something isn’t for you, it doesn’t mean that you should downvote it. The subreddit has thousands of posts a week, and not every post is for everyone. Consider Upvoting giveaways as a way of saying ‘thanks’ to OP, even if you don't participate.
Browse the new submissions page and upvote the ones you like. Regard it, perhaps, as a public service.
Actually read a post before you vote on it (as opposed to just basing your vote on the title).
Do not engage in illegal activity. This means no facilitating piracy or copyright infringement and no trying to give away accounts. Sharing your opinion on piracy is okay, sharing links or ROMs or providing information that greatly facilitates it is not.
No attacking others, trolling, brigading, witch-hunting, flame-baiting, text spamming or asking others to do these on your behalf.
Don’t spam PCMR with your own content, especially if you don’t interact with us or if the content is unrelated.
Do NOT Post someone's personal information, or post links to personal information. This includes links to public Facebook pages and screenshots of Facebook pages with the names still legible. Users posting personal info are subject to an immediate account deletion by the Admins. If you see a user posting personal info, please contact the admins. Additionally, on pages such as Facebook, where personal information is often displayed, please mask the personal information and personal photographs using a blur function, erase function, or simply block it out with color. When personal information is relevant to the post (i.e. comment wars) please use color blocking for the personal information to indicate whose comment is whose. This integrates directly with rule 4.
Do NOT Repost deleted/removed information. It doesn't matter what the content was. If it was deleted/removed, it's for a reason. Contact the moderators instead of reposting. This can and will probably get you banned.
Do not ask or hint for votes.** ("Show me some love!", "To the front page!”, "Upvote for visibility", "If this makes the front page, I'll X", "If this gets X votes, I'll Y!", "Upvote if you do this!", etc.). This includes polls and 'Google Bombing'.
Hold off on posting the same thing too frequently. If you’re looking for input or tech support, stick with your post for a while adding edits and comments as needed. Posting too much can result in restrictions or even a ‘Shadow Ban’ from the admins.
Don’t Linkjack stories: linking to stories via blog posts that add nothing extra or rehost videos.
Do not use shorteners.
Don’t make comments that lack content. Phrases such as "this", "lol", “F”, “K”, and "ayy" are not witty, original, or funny, and do not add anything to the discussion. Same goes for comments announcing your vote.
Avoid complaining about cross-posting, reposts (that aren’t blatant or recent), number of votes or comments, or posts that you might not like.
Don’t mass downvote someone else's posts. Try to vote the content, not the user.
Do not use other platforms (IMs, tweets, posts, etc.) to direct people to vote on particular posts; Do not comply when others ask you to do so.
